4 | slices | bacon, diced | |

1 | red onion, sliced into rings and separated | ||

4 | cloves | garlic, chopped | |

4 | ounces | crumbled blue cheese | |

Burgers: | |||
1 | pound | ground beef, formed into 4 equal size patties | |
|
|||
4 | hamburger buns, toasted | ||
|
|||
4 | leaves | green lettuce | |
|
|||
1 | tomato, sliced | ||
|
To prepare the topping:
Warm a skillet to medium high. Cook bacon until crispy; remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
Reduce heat to medium, add red onion and saute for 2 minutes. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Place bacon, onion and garlic in a small bowl, season with salt and pepper to taste and keep warm, but not hot.
Toss cheese crumbles with the bacon mixture just before serving the burgers.
To cook the burgers:
Heat a grill until very hot and you can hold your hand over the grill for not more than 3 seconds.
Place the burgers on the grill and cook about 4 minutes per side (or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F).
Remove from the grill.
Place lettuce, tomato and a burger patty on each bun and add a scoop of the bacon cheese topping. Serve immediately.
